Original Text

The European Anglers Alliance, representing 18 European nations and over 6 million anglers, held its 7th General Assembly on the 31 March and 1 April in Paris (France), and discussed the situation of the blue fin tuna.

As a result of the attached manifest of the French Federation of Sea Anglers (FFSA), endorsed by the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) as shown by their attached letter of 30 March 2000, following and on top of the attached EAA Strassbourg resolution of 1996 and the EAA resolutions taken in Holland 2000, alarmed by the lack of enforcement of the recommendations of the ICCAT Scientific Committee.

The European Anglers Alliance urges both ICCAT and the European Union about commercial fishing for blue fin tuna:

bulletto enforce the minimum size of 6,4 kg;
bulletto enforce the quotas set by ICCAT;
bulletto bring a total halt to fishing by trawlers using lines and seine nets during the breeding season (late May to mid July) in the spawning grounds off the Balearic Islands;
bulletto organise and carry out effective checks and inspections on boats working during the closed season as recommended by ICCAT and the European Union
